Fifteen dolls, one posture

The Digital Circus Sit crochet doll set is the largest the studio makes: Pomni, Jax 1 and Jax 2, Ragatha, Kinger, Zooble, Gangle, Caine, Kaufmo, Gummigoo, Ribbit, Noir Ragatha, Pomni Hamster, Jax-Suit Pomni and Pomni-Suit Jax.

Sitting is the hard part

A seated doll has to balance. The hips are shaped and the legs stuffed to a different firmness from the body so it sits square instead of tipping backwards, and that has to hold at every size. A standing doll can lean on a shelf edge; a sitting one cannot hide anything.

Two Jaxes

There are two dolls called Jax and they are not the same doll. Jax 1 is the rabbit in the maid's dress and apron; Jax 2 is the one in pink dungarees. Both are listed separately on the product page, so check which you are ordering.

Which size

These sit rather than stand, so they take less height than their size suggests. 8 or 10 inches is the usual choice; 14 is for one character rather than a row.

Where they come from

People are trapped inside a digital circus by its ringmaster, each given a bright cartoon body they never asked for and no way out. The cheerfulness is the horror.

It gives the dolls an unusual brief: shapes that are genuinely appealing, with faces that have to carry something other than delight. The seated posture the whole set shares comes from the same place.
